New Tool to Help California Duals Navigate Care Choices

Navigating the health care system can be confusing for people who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal. With so many health plan choices, comparing benefits can be stressful and time-consuming. That’s why The SCAN Foundation, Harbage Consulting, and other partners created the web tool My Care, My Choice to help Californians who are eligible for both programs to discover their local care choices in an easy-to-understand way.First, an individual will answer a few questions about their current health needs and care preferences. That will help to create a list of local health plans that match their needs. This way, they get personalized results to help them decide what’s best for them.Additional resources on the website include more information on California’s six care choices (PACE, Cal MediConnect, FIDE SNP, D-SNP, Medicare Advantage, and Accountable Care Organizations), and an introductory video to My Care, My Choice. My Care, My Choice is for Californians with Medicare and Medi-Cal, and anyone who helps them with their health coverage choices—friends, family caregivers, or trusted advisors. It is a first, yet powerful step in a larger movement to improve the way Californians understand, choose, and use their care choices.Harbage Consulting was proud to support the development of My Care, My Choice, including writing the educational content and developing the logic behind the tool that matches duals to the care choices that may be the best fit for their needs. Based on our extensive work with California’s dual eligibles, we know this is a needed tool and are excited to help educate our partners about how My Care, My Choice can help.Visit www.MyCareMyChoice.org today to explore.
