State Strategies to Support the Future of the Primary Care Physician and Nursing Workforce

Aurrera Health supported the National Academy for State Health Policy to conduct research and analysis of short- and long-term strategies to address primary care health workforce challenges, including consideration of existing and promising approaches. Aurrera Health conducted desk research of national and state initiatives and legislation to address shortages, scheduled and facilitated key informant interviews with state officials and national associations, and helped plan and execute a virtual convening of a select group of stakeholders to vet findings and refine recommendations. Aurrera Health developed a report State Strategies to Support the Future of the Primary Care Physician and Nursing Workforce detailing strategies that states and health systems can use to address health workforce challenges. The report outlines workforce challenges and aligns them with policy strategies and state implementation examples to address the challenges.
