Preparing for California’s Health Information Technology Data Exchange Framework

Aurrera Health in partnership with strategic partner Kate Ricker conducted a series of more than 20 interviews with California stakeholder organizations to outline the technological capacity and funding needs of delivery system providers who must comply with legislation requiring the development and implementation of a statewide Health and Human Services Data Exchange Framework in California. We identified four categories of investments necessary to achieve robust interoperability based on stakeholder engagement, including onetime technical system and infrastructure investment, technical system and infrastructure maintenance and operations, policy and implementation support, and staffing/workforce. The research culminated in a report entitled Closing the Gap in California’s Health Data Exchange published by the California Health Care Foundation.
