Supporting California’s Long-Term Care Carve-In
Aurrera Health is supporting the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) with its transition of institutional Long-Term Care (LTC) services from fee-for-service to Medi-Cal managed care, an effort under the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) initiative. Starting in 2023, Medi-Cal managed care plans (MCPs) in all counties in California began covering the LTC benefit for Medi-Cal members residing in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The LTC benefit for other institutions, such as subacute facilities and intermediate care facilities for the developmentally disabled, were covered by Medi-Cal MCPs at the start of 2024.
To support DHCS in this transition, Aurrera Health worked with DHCS to host a series of workgroup meetings that informed DHCS policy and operational guidance. We also created content for and facilitated educational webinars, trainings, and office hours for stakeholders, and developed policy and implementation resources including responses to individual stakeholder inquiries and frequently asked question documents.
