Deputy Director
Sasha Hulsey MPP/MPH serves as Deputy Director of Medicaid Policy & Programs with Aurrera Health Group. She joined the firm in September 2020 and works closely with clients within the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) on the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) initiative.
Sasha provides support on stakeholder engagement and workgroup planning, project management, and policy development on projects related to dual eligible individuals. Most recently, Sasha has supported California’s transition from the Cal MediConnect demonstration to a statewide D-SNP model. Sasha has also supported the CalAIM Long-Term Care Carve-In transition and the ACEs Aware initiative to train Medi-Cal providers on screening for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and responding with trauma-informed care.
Prior to joining Aurrera Health Group, Sasha worked as a Project Manager with the Minnesota Department of Health and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health on a COVID-19 medical modeling initiative. She also worked with the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs at the University of Minnesota conducting community-based participatory research and policy implementation on criminal expungement for individuals who have been exploited and trafficked. The project she worked on, Reimagining Expungement, received the 2020 Paul and Sheila Wellstone Award for Public Action and Academic Excellence.
Sasha holds a master’s degree in public health and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, as well as a master’s degree in British Studies from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany where she focused her research on health equity issues in the British National Health Service. She holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and international studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Sasha is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and outside of work, she enjoys cooking, traveling, practicing yoga, and hanging out with her dog, Cosmo.
