Aurrera Health worked with the Healthy Schools Campaign to better understand the experience of states that have carved school health services into their Medicaid managed care delivery system or are currently working on doing so. To do this, Aurrera Health researched how four states (California, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington) structure these relationships and analyzed how state policies and systems impact the relationships. In addition, our team facilitated interviews with state officials, school health officials, and managed care representatives in each state to discuss opportunities and challenges in carving school Medicaid services into a managed care model. Findings from the research and interviews were used to create a final report Medicaid Managed Care and School Health Services: Early Lessons & Opportunities that will inform the Healthy Schools Campaign and partners in other states.
