Learning Collaboratives for California’s Major Health and Social Services Initiatives
Aurrera Health worked with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to host Learning Collaboratives for three of the state’s major health and social service initiatives—the Whole Person Care Pilots, the Health Homes Program, and the Public Hospital Redesign and Incentives in Medi-Cal (PRIME) Program. Each of these programs tested innovative approaches to improving the quality of care for beneficiaries in Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. These in-person sessions provided technical assistance, networking opportunities, and helpful resources to hundreds of frontline program implementation staff across the Medi-Cal delivery system. Although the design and curriculum for each Learning Collaborative varied by program, they shared the same key goals to:
Offer hospitals, community organizations, local government agencies, and health plans technical assistance from subject matter experts, as well as their peers, in a collegial environment;
Facilitate discussions around implementation challenges, potential solutions, and promising practices;
Provide a continuous feedback loop and opportunities for facilitated discussions between entities; and
Disseminate and discuss DHCS policy guidance and updates in a clear and audience-specific manner.
These in-person and virtual sessions provided technical assistance, networking opportunities, and helpful resources to hundreds of frontline program implementation staff across the entire Medi-Cal delivery system that directly resulted in improved quality of care for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
