Sophie Leruth

Sophie Leruth, MPH is a Policy Consultant for Medicaid Quality Initiatives on the Medicaid Policy & Programs team at Aurrera Health Group. She joined the firm in  2022, and supports various state, federal, and foundation projects focused on health care quality and access through policy analysis and research, data analysis and visualization, project management, technical assistance, and stakeholder engagement.

Since joining Aurrera Health Group, Sophie supported the planning and execution of a conference for public health systems participating in California’s Quality Incentive Pool (QIP) program aimed at disseminating best practices focused on improving care delivery and health outcomes for Medi-Cal beneficiaries. Sophie currently provides policy research, analytic, project management, and technical writing support on projects focused on addressing racial and ethnic disparities in California; summarizing recommendations for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) Medicaid/CHIP Core Sets; developing an annual provider performance report on behavioral health providers in the District of Columbia; identifying strategies for states to leverage Medicare Savings Programs to increase health care affordability for seniors; and identifying potential Medicaid pathways for expanding access to evidence-based interventions for children.

Before joining Aurrera Health Group, Sophie was a legal epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Public Health Law Program, working on COVID-19 mitigation policy research. In this role, she collected, analyzed, and monitored information about notable policy and legal events related to the COVID-19 public health response. During an earlier internship for the program, Sophie also supported the development of equity-focused strategic planning by conducting research on housing, transportation, and food security-related initiatives.

Sophie completed her graduate practicum as a qualitative research assistant conducting research on maternal health disparities funded by the National Institutes of Health. She also served as an intern at the Task Force for Global Health, where she conducted research and developed a communication strategy tailored to public health professionals. These experiences helped further her commitment to quality health care access and innovative, evidence-based decision-making.

Sophie holds a master’s degree in health policy & management from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health with a certificate in socio-contextual health determinants,  and a bachelor’s degree in politics & international affairs from Wake Forest University. In her free time, Sophie can be found reading, knitting, and working on Lego sets.
