Understanding Substance Use Prevalence in California

Aurrera Health worked with the California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) to update their Substance Use in California Almanac in 2022. The almanac highlights data on a variety of topics related to substance use disorders (SUD), including the prevalence of SUDs, overdoses, deaths, SUD treatment, workforce, spending, and information about California’s public SUD treatment system. Data are stratified by race and ethnicity, gender, and age. The Almanac is intended to provide policymakers and providers with a snapshot of SUD prevalence and treatment in California. In 2025, Aurrera Health and CHCF will release an updated version of the Almanac with new data sources and metrics.
