Modernizing California’s Behavioral Health Delivery System
Aurrera Health works closely with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to support policy development and implementation planning for the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA), passed by California voters as a component of Proposition 1 in March 2024. BHSA aims to modernize the state’s behavioral health delivery system, improve accountability, increase transparency, and expand the capacity of behavioral health care facilities for Californians. The Aurrera Health team provides subject matter expertise to DHCS related to mental health and substance use disorder services and behavioral health financing, building upon the firm’s experience supporting other major health initiatives in California such as the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) initiative. The team supports stakeholder engagement, provides extensive research and analysis and works closely with DHCS to establish policy guidance to effectively implement the changes envisioned under the BHSA.
