Deputy Director
Kate Roberts, MA, MSW, is a Deputy Director for Behavioral Health Policy on the Integrated Care team at Aurrera Health Group. Kate is a behavioral health and drug use research expert who has focused her career on supporting healthy systems engagement in harm reduction-based substance use screening and treatment.
Prior to joining Aurrera Health Group, Kate worked for the University Chapel Hill School of Medicine, where she helped lead the implementation of an interdisciplinary inpatient addiction medicine consult service. She worked closely with the health system leadership and the NC Department of Health and Human Services to develop implementation and evaluation plans for state-funded behavioral health interventions, including North Carolina’s first hub-and-spoke treatment model, the NC STAR Network. From this work, Kate has published peer-reviewed research and supported the development of trainings and policies at the health system and state levels.
Kate is also a licensed clinical social worker who is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She holds eight years of clinical experience treating persons with substance use and behavioral health-related concerns. She has worked in community mental health, hospital, and private practices settings, holding extensive knowledge regarding the impact of policy on behavioral health delivery.
Kate holds a master of social work from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work, a master of religion focused on bioethics from Duke University and is a doctoral candidate at Bryan Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Kate’s dissertation focuses on socio-political factors that impact the agency of women who use drugs. She lives in Berkeley, CA, with her pup, Olive Mustard-Tot, where you can find her making homemade pasta, rock climbing, or volunteering with the National Drug User Union.
